Hit the big four-oh in 2005, have an 18-year-old son.
Work: I’ve tried my hand at quite a few jobs- hospitality, financial services, teaching, but have never lasted more than three years at any (due to boredom mostly). I’ve been an editor (English and medical language) for almost 9 years now, so that says something about the ennui factor at my present job – I learn something new every day, so that keeps me interested. Drawback – it’s very sedentary and I’m packing on the pounds…
Fave authors: Too many to enumerate here, but those that come to mind – James Thurber, Mary Stewart, Lapierre and Collins, Anita Rau Badami, Jack Higgins, Irving Stone, Daphne du Maurier, Arthur C. Clarke, Harper Lee, Jack Schaefer, Sudeep Chakravarti, Salman Rushdie, Wilbur Smith …
Fave music: An eclectic mix. Genre wise, The Blues. Also Soft Rock, Country, Zydeco, Cajun, Latin, Soft Pop; Hindi film music of the 1960s and 1970s; semi-classical Tamil and Malayalam film music. (Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Santana, Taj Mahal, The Allman Brothers Band, Bryan Adams, Lionel Richie, Sting, Savage Garden, Ronan Keating, Jo-El Sonnier, Johnnie Allan, Clifton Chenier, Gloria Estefan, Enrique Iglesias, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, and lots, lots more…)
Fave movies: English – Bend It Like Beckham, You’ve Got Mail, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, My Own Country, Bhaji on the Beach, Mississippi Masala. Six Degrees of Separation, Die Hard, The Man in the Iron Mask, Schindler’s List, An Officer and A Gentleman, Grease, Zorba the Greek, Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I, LA Story…
Hindi – Sholay, Umrao Jaan, Chupke Chupke, Deewaar…
Tamil: Nayagan, Chippikul Muthu, Salangai Oli, Michael Madana Kamaraj, Avvai Shanmughi…
